Last
night went great. I spent probably 1 1/2 - 2 hours teaching TIG. Another hour
spent socializing and coffee breaks. I had two students, one a co worker the
other a mechanical engineer, who is self employed and runs a construction
company on the side - a very smart man who already had a great deal of
knowledge of tig - because he had
self educated himself.
He
was very ' know it all ' and I found he tried to go out of his way to challenge
and intimidate me.
All
this being said, at the end of the night he gave me a whole-hearted thanks and
told me I was able to explain and answer questions his own certified welders
at work couldn’t answer. Les
(who
is the noob ) ended up saying he felt confident and great about tig welding and
excited because he now understands everything that is happening...
I
made sure that I had answered all of their questions and concerns, and had
helped them develop their technique before I had left. The reference booklet
was also a great idea, and they really seemed to have a strong interest in
having it. All in all I'm proud to say it was a successful time and everyone
seemed happy and satified. Because it was my first time and I knew Les well I
told him I wasn’t going to give him a real price and it was up to him to decide
what it was worth. they put 85 dollars in my pocket. Not bad for going to someone's
house, talking, doing a little welding, and meeting
someone new. Hopefully I can have the opportunity to do it again once I start
to get advertising. I am making business cards this weekend, and I plan on
opening a website you had suggested. Thanks for giving me the confidence to get
